Return of the Mustang GT – The Boss is Back

1982 saw the return of the Mustang GT, only this time it was developed on the Fox platform. Ford also introduced the HO engine, too, which was a very popular move. The Mustang GT HO engine won the quickest domestic car vote in 1982 and it was also really cheap too. 1982 certainly put Ford back on the map with this Mustang and it came with a new advertising slogan “The Boss is Back.”

High Ho its of to the races we go and fans started taking notice that Ford was coming out of its doldrums and waking up to the fact that if you want to sell performance cars you have to produce a car that performs. The HO motor was a hit and would start to draw back some of those highly disappointed fans lost in the previous to years do to lack of attention. The better performing motor equipped with the weight reduction had the rumblings of better things to come.

From Rags to Riches – 1983 Ford Mustang Convertible

In 1983, the ever-popular Mustang convertible returned. So many adjustments were made to the car and yet the sales were not overly brilliant. Mustang fans were delighted with the convertible being back but yet only just over 120,000 Mustangs were sold within the year and of them, just over 23,000 were the convertible range.

All in all 1983 turned out to be an ok year for Mustang fans the much beloved return of the convertible got many a longing Mustang fans juices flowing and was a welcome addition to the model line up. Although numbers were nowhere near the glory days sales numbers they were still respectful by 80’s standards. This would keep the Mustang going to see its 20th birthday in the following year.

1984 The Ford Mustang Turns 20 Years Old

Finally, in 1984, the Mustang celebrated its 20th anniversary and it introduced the Stang, GT, LX, and the base L Model. The company was supposed to introduce the extremely powerful 5.0 V8, 205 horsepower Mustang but it did not happen as it was planned. This did cause a little upset to fans of the Mustang but overall, people were glad that Mustangs were still around after 20 years.

The history of the Mustang from 1979 to 1984 is certainly an interesting one. Ford has had its ups and downs with the cars but as the Mustang marked its 20th anniversary, fans were ecstatic that the car was still available and still as popular as ever.
